STEEL LIGHT – shielding fabric against electromagnetic radiation with up to 42 dB HF attenuation, earthing capability, and versatile applications. Ideal for blackout curtains and home textiles such as blankets and bedding. Grounding LF possible. Shielding effectiveness up to 99,99% – reliable protection even against 5G!
The STEEL LIGHT fabric is technically identical to our STEEL GRAY material, but is produced without additional coloring. This makes it equally suitable for processing into shielding products such as sleeping bags, bedding, or blankets. The integrated stainless steel fibers make the fabric conductive, allowing low-frequency (LF) alternating electric fields to be effectively reduced through grounding. In the high-frequency (HF) range, the material achieves a shielding performance of up to 42 dB, even at high GHz frequencies.
Thanks to its properties, STEEL LIGHT is particularly well suited for curtains and textiles used in bedrooms and living areas. However, it is less suitable for clothing, as the stainless steel fibers give the fabric a firmer, slightly scratchy feel compared to silver fabrics—similar to coarse wool. On the other hand, the material stands out for its durability, long service life, and easy care: it can be washed and ironed without any issues.
Use and assets of the STEEL LIGHT
STEEL LIGHT is an opaque fabric made of cotton wool, polyester and stainless steel used for HF+LF protection. It is typically used for curtains, flooring underlays, ceilings, furniture (beds), screens, beddings and, although not often, as a cheap clothing fabric.

FAQ about STEEL LIGHT shielding fabric
Steel Light shielding fabric provides high-efficiency RF shielding effectiveness of up to 42 dB. It reliably protects against electromagnetic radiation (electrosmog) caused by 5G mobile networks, LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and cell towers. Thanks to the integrated stainless steel threads, the protection remains stable even under mechanical stress in everyday use.
Since Steel Light contains 30% stainless steel fiber, the texture is slightly more robust, comparable to a lightweight wool sweater. For bedding and blankets, we recommend using the fabric as an intermediate layer or wearing pajamas if you have very sensitive skin. Compared to silver-based fabrics, Steel Light is significantly more durable and resistant to oxidation.
Yes, due to its surface conductivity, this fabric is contactable and can be grounded. Professional grounding effectively shields against low-frequency (LF) alternating electric fields, such as those caused by household wiring or electrical appliances, in addition to high-frequency (HF) radiation.
Steel Light is very easy to maintain and durable. it can be washed at up to 60°C on a delicate cycle. We recommend using a specialized detergent for shielding fabrics (such as Texcare) to protect the metallic threads. The fabric can be ironed (level 1 without steam) and retains its full shielding effectiveness even after many washes.
Unlike fabrics with silver threads, stainless steel does not oxidize. Silver-coated fabrics can lose shielding power and discolor over time due to sweat or high humidity. Because of its stainless steel components, Steel Light is extremely corrosion-resistant and stable—making it the ideal solution for products that are frequently moved or washed, such as blankets and bedding.
Yes, the shielding attenuation of our fabrics is regularly measured in EMC laboratories according to established standards (such as ASTM D4935-10 or IEEE Std 299-2006). Steel Light achieves over 99.99% shielding at 1 GHz, making it a professional-grade solution for protection in sleeping and living areas.
Order Cancellation | Request Free Test Sample
If the shielding material is customized and cut from the roll in increments of 1.0 running meters at the customer’s request, returns or cancellation of the order are not possible. Therefore, you have the option to request a free material sample – please request it BEFORE ORDERING custom-cut material!
All our shielding materials are highly advanced specialty products with outstanding performance. The resale of custom-cut shielding material of this performance class is either not possible or only possible with significant financial loss, and therefore legally falls under the exception to the right of withdrawal.
